In April 2009, a User Guide called “How to search the Red List” was published as a 40-page PDF document. There’s also a 9-minute YouTube video tutorial.
Step 1: select the taxonomy.
CHORDATA are animals with backbones. Click the “Update” button before going on to the next step.

Step 2: select the assessment category.
“EX – Extinct” as the assessment category and “Subspecies and varieties” in the “Taxa to show” panel. Click the “Update” button before continuing.

Step 3: click the “View results” button.
A list of results will be generated with the names of species linked to their individual database entries.

To the right of the results there is a “Your search” box showing the criteria chosen for the search.
You can use the menu on the left to refine your search:

Simple search — keywords only.
You will need to enter each keyword exactly as it appears in the database. For example: human, not humans. The search only looks for keywords in the fields listed below. It doesn’t scan the text in the remainder of the database entry.
